We Launched. Here’s What We’re Hearing.
A few months back, we officially launched 1898 Leather.
Since then, every time someone places an order—whether it’s for a pair of our welding gloves or a leather apron—we do our best to follow up:
-
Is the glove a good fit?
-
Is the apron working for you?
-
Anything that could be better?
-
What do you like about it?
That’s the usual list. About half the folks reply, and some who don’t get back right away end up checking in later (so far, anyway).
You’ll hear from me—Matt, the owner/founder—or from Ana, who helps with a bit of everything and works closely with me.
The good news:
-
People really love the dexterity and feel—something they haven’t found in other leather welding gloves.
-
We keep hearing, “These are the most comfortable gloves I’ve ever owned.”
-
Several people said they can actually keep their gloves on for other tasks—unlike the bulky, oven-mitt-style ones they’ve used in the past.
The not-so-good news:
-
Some folks ordered too small, usually after skipping the size guide. We’ve since added clearer notes to the site: if you’re unsure, size up. These are quality leather gloves made to be snug at first and broken in over time. Everyone’s hands are built a little different—some fingers wider, some narrower.
-
Apron preferences are all over the place. Some people like them stiff, others soft. Some are used to a strap across the lower back. We’re listening, and these things are shaping our next designs—so keep the feedback coming.
The feedback has been incredible.
People send photos—of their work, or themselves wearing our gear. It never gets old.
We’re proud to make high-quality leather gear that holds up in the shop, and we’re even more proud that people are enjoying it. That’s what it’s all about.
The man in the photo is Tim—a great customer, and someone I’m looking forward to talking with again.
