1. What is 1898?

1898 is a leather making company dedicated to producing the best possible leather goods regardless of difficulty to produce or material expense.  Unlike many other leather companies that are veiled dropshippers, all of our products are creations of our own, down to the last detail.

2. What products do you offer?

At 1898, we specialize in high-quality leather gear, starting with welding products. Our current product lineup includes:

  • Aprons: Designed for durability and safety during welding tasks.
  • Gloves: Offering excellent grip and protection.
  • Caps: Stylish headgear for welders (Coming Soon)

3. What materials are used in your products?

Our welding gloves are made with two key materials:

  • Nubuck Leather (Exterior): Nubuck is a durable, top-grain leather that offers good heat resistance and protection against abrasion. It’s also soft and flexible, providing comfort and ease of movement during use.

  • Kevlar (Lining): The gloves are lined with Kevlar, which provides excellent heat and cut resistance. Kevlar is lightweight but strong, adding an extra layer of safety without sacrificing comfort.

Our aprons are made from thick (2.7mm) buffalo hide, a tough and durable leather that resists wear, abrasion, and scraping. Over time, the leather develops a unique patina, adding character to the apron as it ages.

We also use Yellow Kevlar threading for extra reinforcement, ensuring the apron remains strong and reliable through heavy use. These materials provide excellent durability and protection, making our aprons ideal for demanding work environments.

4. How should I care for my welding gear?
